It has been a while since I last posted on my progress. It is over a year since I started on my quest to cure myself of diabetes.

I am still doing two day and three day extended fasts, at least once a week. The rest of the time, I am eating a ketogenic diet and within an eight hour window. That means it is moderately restrictive.

I do a lot of cycling, about 2-3 hours a day. Some of it is quite slow and relaxed, and about half of it is more fast paced and strenuous. I also do some light weight training, and I do some exercises aimed at building my abs.

Weight Loss

I am working hard to stay under 220lbs. It is not easy. I have to fast more and re-feed less after a fast. My wife always says to be patient about it. I am still targeting to get under 208 lbs, when my BMI will be under 30. Technically then I would no longer be obese, but overweight.

Haemoglobin A1C

A point of note here is I am below the high point, so I am in range for the first time in over a decade. Just a year ago I was at the top of the chart and my doctor was talking about putting me on insulin injections. I am so glad he threatened that, as it was the impetus to change. I am technically no longer diabetic. Woohoo! If I get below 5.7% I will not even be pre-diabetic. So my goal here is to drop 0.2% or more by my next test.

Microalbumin/Creatinine Ratio

This is impressive. It is an indicator to screen for and detect early kidney disease in people with diabetes or other risk factors. The recommended value is below 2.0 mg/mmol. A year ago I was over 33 mg/mmol (294 mg/g) and my doctor was worried. I am now down to 3.7 mg/mmol. It is my best value in over a decade. I am greatly reducing my chances of diabetic kidney disease. Woohoo!

Blood Pressure

Until recently, I was having trouble with blood pressure.  I was scoring around 150/100. I am greatly improved in the last month, closer to the 120/80. My doctor will be glad. I watched a video a while back on youtube about taking D3 & K2, so I gave it a try. I am not certain that is the reason, but I will be continuing taking it for now.
